Shillong to Nongkhnum Island

An out of the world place to be explored by foot. The nearest connectivity is via a town called Nongstoin. Road to Nongkhnum are not good currently – best navigated by a 4WD vehicle. Best way to enjoy Nungkhnum is to just walk all over the hills. You will also be rewarded with views of some great waterfalls – Weinia and Langsthiang. You can take the local people’s help as it is easy to get lost among these hills quite easily.

Around 3 hours drive from the city of Shillong and approximately 80 km, on the recently done up state highway , with some breathtaking view of country side, and Kynshi river flowing along, you reach Nongstoin, a small town and district headquarters of West Khasi Hills. On the way you can saviour local breakfast at Kynshi with local brew, the black tea. From Nongstoin to the second largest river island, which is about 16 km it can take you about 01 hr with the pathetic road conditions. Once you reach the islands all that is forgiven in the land of abode of clouds… for the view is breathtaking, the expanse vast and it so quiet, pure and serene, for you to soak in all that you could.
